This weeks update!

This week foundation students get more of a taste of independence with their development pieces from Blackpool.

Using the primary sources gathered we have a variety or illustration, printing and digital photography/drawing techniques emerging into final pieces.

Looking forward to seeing the final pieces at tomorrow's deadline.

Graphic artist research.

Those of you completing research at home, please see the sheet below to annotate.
Also, consider colour swatches and sketches of how this relates to the environmental and man made structures researched during the Blackpool trip.

Blackpool trip continued...

Day 2/2 and the weather may have been cold and wet but nothing dampened our spirits.
We began with a spot of drawing of central pier.
A 40 minute study to start the day.

Then onto a spot of photography under the pier, recording the natural structures-looking at the barnacles and rust,
And sketching the man made structure of the pier itself.

Then after a walk on the beach, followed by lunch we headed to our next stop, Illuminasia.
This was by far the most inspirational part of the trip today.

The indoor illuminations were breath taking and the scale of the light sculptures were enormous, I can feel a light sculpture brief coming.
Each room had a different theme and students were able to walk amongst the sculptures.

This sculpture was all made in situ over a six week period and the dog alone used over 650 metres of silk in top if a wire frame.

Just enough time to grab a quick bit of Blackpool rock, before we headed back home.
Over 2 days we have collected enough primary research for the next 2 units and have had an amazing time.
The weather was good to us and the rain stayed away until we got onto the train back to Manchester.

Blackpool trip time-man made structures.

We were all up bright, early and bushy tailed to meet at Piccadily train station.
After an hour trip we arrived safe and sound in Blackpool.
We explored the sights, looking for some iconic spots which we had been printing and drawing during the week so far.

After lunch we checked into our quaint bed and breakfast The Gramsford Lodge and started some drawing tasks before the illuminations began.

We all had fun with the light drawings on the beach.

And around South Pier
We especially liked the light trails of the illuminations and Ferris wheel.
We even managed to squeeze in a trip to the light exhibition at Grundy art gallery before fish and chips on the seafront.

It's been a great trip so far and looking forward to seeing Illuminasia tomorrow at the Winter Gardens.
